Today, 37 million children are out of school due to conflict. Around one million of them are in northeast Nigeria, where fighting has displaced 2.2 million people, mostly women and children. Forced to move multiple times by the threat of violence, these children face many uncertainties and often spend years out of school. The effects of this are catastrophic as displaced children struggle to integrate with the host communities they have fled to. The International Rescue Committee’s ‘Healing Classrooms’ not only provide a place to learn and catch up but also a safe space to play and recover from the trauma they have endured.
