2014: The year in pictures

Thomson Reuters Foundation's selection of photos of the year brings images of fellow-humans around the world in desperate situations, some natural, some man-made, but all showing the sorrow, anger or determination of people struggling to stay alive in a world made hazardous by natural forces and, all too often, the savagery of their fellow men. From South Sudan to Japan, from the Himalayan heights of Nepal to the heat of Kenya, Reuters photographers captured the hunger, hope and despair of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary events.
