Exclusive images taken by Reuters photographer Damir Sagolj on a Thomson Reuters Foundation-led reporting trip to rural North Korea won a prestigious Society of Publishers in Asia award for best feature photographer.
Last October's trip, which resulted from weeks of negotiation by the Foundation with North Korean authorities, marked the first time a major Western news agency was given access to the country's breadbasket. The team visited schools, hospitals, orphanages and collective farms.
The resulting text, video and stills reportage shone a light on severe malnutrition in the countryside and gave clients a rare glimpse of daily life in the world's most secretive country.
