Reuters has launched an English language website in India, dedicated to South Asian news, business, sport and culture.
The site, reuters.co.in, publishes the latest news from India and its neighbours including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh, as well as offering comprehensive international coverage and all the latest cricket, football and Bollywood news. It also integrates blogs from across India as part of Reuters continuing efforts to incorporate a wider set of voices and commentary alongside its news content.
Emerging markets such as India continue to be a focus for the company and a number of Reuters senior executives have been appointed to lead an expanded team in the region. The launch of the site follows the successful launches of local Reuters sites in the U.S., U.K., Japan, Africa and China.
Reuters India features video channels from Reuters including one that showcases Reuters popular Oddly Enough news - a collection of the most bizarre and offbeat news videos from around the world. The site is attracting advertisers and is already carrying advertisements from Indian brokerage house, ShareKhan.
Greg Beitchman, editor of Reuters India consumer media said: “As the Indian economy expands and transforms itself, business professionals in India and South Asia will continue to count on Reuters for trusted and up-to-the-minute business, political and breaking news. Reuters India is an essential news source as India establishes itself as a superpower in the global economy.”
