Editors to spend time on U.S. publications

Washington – Leading editors from 12 countries. including Zimbabwe, will spend time at U.S. publications under an annual international journalism exchange programme administered by the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ) and the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE).  A panel of judges selected the editors from almost 300 applicants from 77 countries.

Participants will spend a week in Washington, D.C., and three weeks at media organisations across the country including the Los Angeles Times, the Houston Chronicle, Science magazine and The Detroit News.  Two editors, from Syria and Malaysia, were awarded Daniel Pearl Fellowships, named in honour of the American journalist kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002.  They will also spend time at major Jewish publications in the U.S.

Administered by the Washington-based ICFJ, an independent non-profit organization, and the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE), the group of 12 is sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Hearst Corporation, the Paul Klebnikov Fund, the Daniel Pearl Foundation, the Scripps Howard Foundation and the World Editors Forum.
