KIEV, May 16 (Reuters) - Ukrainian justice officials have postponed a summons demanding former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko appear on Monday for questioning over attempted bribery accusations, sources close to her said on Sunday.
Ukraine's prosecutor's office re-opened a 2004 criminal case against the opposition leader last week based on accusations she had tried to bribe Supreme Court judges. Investigators said then that another meeting had been set for Monday.
But sources close to Tymoshenko, who lost out in a run-off for the presidency earlier this year, said: "The date and the time of the meeting have been put back to an unspecified time."
If Tymoshenko's meeting with investigators had gone ahead on Monday as planned, it would have coincided, uncomfortably for Ukrainian authorities, with the arrival of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on a two-day official visit.
Tymoshenko, an old adversary of President Viktor Yanukovich, has been highly critical of his apparent policy tilt towards Moscow and of his decision to extend a lease to the Russian navy in Ukraine until 2042 in exchange for cheaper gas.
The Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainska Pravda said Tymoshenko's meeting with investigators had been called off because one of them had had to go off on an "an urgent official trip".
Tymoshenko, who was in opposition at the time of the alleged offences, has accused Yanukovich of being behind the summons and of conducting "open repression" against her. (Writing by Richard Balmforth; Editing by Paul Casciato)
