JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Aug 30 (Reuters) - A suicide bomber blew himself up outside the headquarters for the governor of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, killing at least one person, residents said.

The attack in the heart of provincial capital Jalalabad happened during the morning rush hour as a group of officials were entering the compound. A district chief was among those killed, they said.

Flames could be seen rising from the site of the blast and security forces had cordonned off several roads leading to the area in the city which lies near the border with Pakistan.
