MIAMI, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Otto strengthened into a hurricane on Friday as it moved northeastwards over the open Atlantic, posing no immediate threat to land, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Otto, the 15th named storm of the busy 2010 Atlantic hurricane season and the eighth hurricane, was packing top sustained winds of 75 miles (120 km) per hour, making it a Category 1 hurricane on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale of intensity.
It was located about 445 miles (715 km) south of Bermuda, heading over the open sea well away from the U.S. East Coast. (Reporting by Kevin Gray; Editing by Pascal Fletcher)
