WASHINGTON, Dec 13 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday that the United States had lost one of its "fiercest champions" with the death of veteran diplomat Richard Holbrooke, a key figure in the unfolding war in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
"Tonight America has lost one of its fiercest champions and most dedicated public servants," Clinton said, confirming the death at age 69 of a troubleshooter that the Obama administration named as its main diplomat for the conflict in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
