KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Dec 27 (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber killed at least three Afghan police officers on Monday as they lined up outside a bank to collect their salaries in the southern city of Kandahar, authorities said.
Fourteen police were wounded and eight were missing after the bomber detonated the explosives in the vehicle parked near the bank, authorities said.
"We have three police dead and 14 wounded," said Shafiqullah, a doctor at the main hospital in Kandahar.
The blast partly destroyed shops, some buildings and several police and army vehicles, a witness said. Several members of the Afghan security forces fired into the sky in panic after the blast, he added.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Taliban insurgents have previously carried out suicide attacks in the province, which is a stronghold of the militants.
