WELLINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - The confirmed death toll from the earthquake that devastated New Zealand's second biggest city Christchurch has risen to 55, the city mayor said on Wednesday.
Bob Parker told a media briefing a further 20 bodies were being recovered and there were reports that as many as 300 people might be missing.
He said the number of unaccounted reflected the number of enquiries made to authorities and and that many could be just commmunication issues.
A search and rescue official said a camera had been put into one of the worst hit buildings and a pocket of 15 people had been found.
