ROME, March 21 (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi was released from a short stay in a hospital on Monday and is resuming her scheduled activities in Italy, spokesman Nadeam Elshami said.
Pelosi, who served as Speaker of the House from 2007 until the beginning of this year when Republicans gained majority control of the chamber, was "not feeling well" earlier in the day and was advised to get medical attention, Elshami said.
Before arriving in Rome, Pelosi and other House members were traveling in Afghanistan.
"After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well," Elshami said in a statement.
He did not provide further details.
Pelosi was in Afghanistan on Saturday, where she and four other House members met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Her office said they discussed the political and security situation in Afghanistan.
