AMMAN, May 20 (Reuters) - Syrian forces backed by tanks stormed the town of Maaret al-Numan in northwestern Syria on Friday to disperse pro-democracy demonstrators, rights lawyer Razan Zaitouna said.
"Residents are reporting three people killed, but their names are not available yet," Zaitouna said.
She added that at least 10 other civilians, whose names were obtained, have been killed in shootings by security forces in demonstrations against Baathist rule that took place in other towns and cities across Syria on Friday.
Maaret al-Numan is around 60 km (35 miles) to the southeast of Syria's second city Aleppo, where protests has been largely confined to the city's university campus. (Reporting by Khaled Yacoub Oweis; Editing by Louise Ireland)
