Sudan's Bashir says wants peaceful solution for Abyei

KHARTOUM, May 23 (Reuters) - North Sudan wants a peaceful solution for the disputed Abyei region seized by Khartoum, President Omar Hassan al-Bashir said on Monday.

"We are efforting to solve the remaining issues and remove tensions in Abyei and go ahead with a peaceful solution for Abyei," he said in a speech.

North Sudanese forces took control of the region disputed with the south at the weekend. (Reporting by Khalid Abdelaziz, writing by Ulf Laessing)
