KHARTOUM, May 28 (Reuters) - The north Sudanese government has told the United Nations the term of the U.N. mission in Sudan will end on July 9, when the south is expected to secede, the state news agency SUNA said on Saturday.

The mission, known as UNMIS, is working to implement a 2005 peace agreement that ended decades of civil war between the north and south. SUNA said the foreign minister sent a message to the U.N. secretary-general about the official termination of the mission.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs has underlined in his message that in line with the U.N. Security Council Resolution No.1978 ... the Government of Sudan has decided to officially end the presence of UNMIS in the country on the 9th July, 2011," SUNA said.
