JUBA, Sudan, June 6 (Reuters) - At least 96,000 people have fled Sudan's Abyei region and the surrounding areas, a United Nations official said on Monday, more than two weeks after the northern Sudanese military seized the contested territory.
"Ninety-six thousand is the number of displaced we can account for, but with many fleeing into the bush the number may be even higher," Lise Grande, the U.N. humanitarian chief in the south, said. (Reporting by Jeremy Clarke; Writing by Alex Dziadosz)
