The documentary, which was broadcast on the France 2 television network's "Envoyé spécial" news programme on 27 January, tells the story of the final days of the Ben Ali regime, in particular the uprising in the city of Kasserine and the impact it had on a system that had nearly spent itself. Gilles Jacquier and Christophe Kenck were the only international journalists in Kasserine at the time of the events. They kept their cool and maintained their professionalism as they reported on the violent incidents that shifted the balance of power in the city. They also showed how Internet users were able to surreptitiously alert people to the reality of what was happening there. The ICRC jury awarded its prize to the report by the two France 2 journalists in recognition of its sobriety and humanity. The ICRC press prize was created in 2003. It is awarded to a current-affairs programme that promotes the principles of international humanitarian law by covering an armed conflict in terms of the suffering it inflicts.
