Aug 16 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 1000 GMT on Tuesday.
KABUL - Afghan police, army forces and troops from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) killed 12 insurgents in 10 joint operations across the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
KANDAHAR - Insurgents on a motorcycle gunned down a female government official in the volatile southern Kandahar province, regional governor spokesman Zalmai Ayoubi said.
The official was killed and her driver was wounded as they drove to her office in the provincial capital city of Kandahar, he added.
KANDAHAR - Six security guards for a fuel and logistics company were wounded by three suicide bombers in the southern Kandahar province, Ayoubi said. The Taliban said they had launched the attack.
KABUL - Afghan forces and ISAF troops killed an insurgent commander in the northern Baghlan province, the coalition said in a statement.
KUNAR - Twelve civilians including women and children were wounded by two mortars overnight in the eastern Kunar province, its governor Fazlullah Wahidi said.
He added that the mortars were from a battle between insurgents and Afghan security forces and ISAF troops. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which they said killed four ISAF service members. The Islamist group often exaggerates incidents involving foreign forces.
