Aug 19 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 0700 GMT on Friday.

KABUL - The Taliban launched an attack on the British Council in Kabul on Friday, killing five Afghans, three Nepalese guards and one foreign soldier. Five Taliban attackers either blew themselves up or were killed in the ensuing firefight, which lasted for more than eight hours.

A soldier from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in the attack, ISAF said, without identifying his nationality.

KABUL - An ISAF member was killed by an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan, ISAF said. It gave no further details.

HELMAND - A suicide bomber who tried to get inside the Helmand provincial governor's compound blew himself up as police began firing at him after he refused to stop, wounding five police officers, local police said.

KABUL - An ISAF service member was killed by a roadside bomb in eastern Afghanistan, the coalition said in a statement late on Thursday. It gave no other details.

KANDAHAR - Four insurgents were killed after they attacked a convoy belonging to a private logistics firm in the southern Kandahar province, governor spokesman Zalmai Ayoubi said.

KABUL - Afghan security forces and ISAF troops killed several insurgents in the central Wardak province on Wednesday, the coalition said in a statement. (Compiled by Kabul bureau)
