LONDON (TrustMedia) – infoasaid, a joint project by media development organisations BBC World Service Trust and Internews, has produced a guide to the media and telecoms landscape in Sudan aimed at helping aid agencies and local journalists better cooperate in getting life-saving information to populations hit by crises.
infoasaid is part of the Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities Network comprising aid agencies such as the British Red Cross, Save the Children and media development groups including Thomson Reuters Foundation.
"All the countries to be profiled are states where the international community is likely to play a major role in responding to humanitarian crises," infoasaid says.
"The guides contain practical information about media consumption habits and news and information flows in each country.
"They profile the main media organisations and their audiences. They also highlight the news, information and entertainment channels that reach vulnerable sectors of the population. The guides show which languages and which media outlets reach different communities most effectively."
