More than 4,000 hectares of crops also destroyed

Flooding has displaced 300 families in Marigat District in Kenya’s Rift Valley after River Molo burst its banks, the Daily Nation reported on Tuesday.

More than 4,000 hectares of crops were also destroyed, the report said.

“The residents will have to depend on relief food,” the paper quoted local councillor Francis ole Keis as saying.

“They may not even send their children to school because they depend on farming to get school fees.”

The Kenya Red Cross warned last week that 700,000 people in Kenya will need emergency aid, such as food and medical care, due to flooding between October and December. About 30,000 are likely to be displaced.
