US ambassador to Philippines says it is unacceptable

Up to 40 percent of the Philippines’ male foreign tourists come to the country for sex tourism, the U.S. envoy to Manila was quoted as saying in the Philippine Star.

“I estimate that maybe up to 40 percent of foreign men who come here come for sexual tourism and that is unacceptable,” U.S. Ambassador to Philippines Harry Thomas Jr. was quoted as saying during a discussion on human trafficking.

According to the Star, Thomas also said the United States wants the Philippines to refine and strengthen its anti-trafficking law to ensure the conviction of foreigners involved trafficking.
