LONDON (TrustLaw) - Tax authorities in the Indian city of Bangalore have recruited an army of workers to bang drums outside the homes and offices of people accused of tax avoidance, the BBC reported.

The unusual solution to recouping unpaid taxes is meant to shame the offenders into paying what they owe, the BBC said.

Officials told the BBC the city is due nearly $40 million in unpaid taxes.

"The taxes recovered will be used to help provide better civic amenities in the city," the BBC quoted corporation Commissioner Siddaiah as saying.
