The week's news from the TrustMedia team.
It’s been a while since our last blog, so there’s lots to fill you in on this week.
Let’s start with the courses. Two weeks back, we hosted a group of Economics students from Misr International University (MIU) in Cairo, Egypt on a Business Journalism course. We had a fantastic time with the students and their trainer, Reuters journalist Manuela Bedawy, not least hearing about their experiences of the uprising in Tahrir Square. As well as undertaking training here in Canary Wharf, the group also visited the London Metal Exchange and the Financial Times to broaden their introduction to business journalism.
No sooner had our Egyptians left than we were welcoming another 15 journalists from (deep breath) Croatia, DRC, Egypt, Hong Kong, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Poland, Romania, UAE, Ukraine and Venezuela for our ‘Making Television News’ course here in London, led by Neil Everton and Kevin Fogerty. The participants settled straight into the course and produced some brilliant footage. Take a look at our Facebook page for an idea of how the course panned out.

But that’s not all! Last week we also held; Elections Reporting in Beirut, Economic & Political Reporting in Frankfurt, Financial & Economic Reporting in Harare, Writing Financial & Business news in Hong Kong, and Training of Trainers in Sarajevo. Aside from courses, we’ve been busy with our ongoing media projects this week. Our Director, Jo Weir has been in Egypt preparing for the launch of our Egyptian Elections website, Awsat Masriya which has been announced for 12th October. The website will provide news and information on the upcoming elections in Egypt as well as opinion pieces and social media roundups.
Thomson Reuters Foundation’s new community website, youTrust, will also be launching on 12th October (busy day!), so we’re gearing up by adding content and creating ‘packages’ (themed web pages). The website is an interactive live database of articles and multimedia from all over the web, themed by humanitarian topics, we'll provide more information on how you can get involved once it's launched.
Last but certainly not least, we've waved goodbye to our lovely Programme Assistant Caroline (albeit to just across the office), and welcomed in her replacement, Grace who’s got off to a flying start at TrustMedia this week!
