PARIS, Nov 30 (Reuters) - The head of the Arab League will attend a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Brussels on Thursday to discuss the situation in Syria, France said on Wednesday.

EU governments agreed on Monday to impose extra financial sanctions on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government over a crackdown on pro-democracy protests and will adopt them at Thursday's regular meeting of foreign ministers.

"The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Elaraby, will be the guest of the working lunch which will follow the formal session of the Council," French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said.

He added that Foreign Minister Alain Juppe would stress the urgency needed to respond to the worsening humanitarian situation in Syria. (Reporting By John Irish)
