Indonesia’s anti-corruption court on Monday sentenced former Youth and Sports Ministry secretary Wafid Muharram to three years in prison and fined him 150 million rupiah ($16,605) over a graft case, the Jakarta Post reported.
The paper said Wafid was accused of receiving 3.2 billion rupiah (US$354,240) from construction company Duta Graha Indah, as a kickback after the company was awarded a contract for the construction of the athlete's village for the November Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
Presiding judge Marsuddin Nainggolan reportedly said witness statements had proven that the money was a “success fee”, the paper reported.
The prosecutors had demanded six years in prison and 250 million rupiah ($27,675) in fines.
