Dec 31 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 0900 GMT on Friday.

KABUL - A senior Taliban leader was killed in volatile Kunduz province in Afghanistan's north on Thursday, police and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) said. Kunduz police chief Sayed Rahman identified the insurgent as Mullah Bahadur and described him as the "shadow Taliban governor" of the province. He said Bahadur commanded "hundreds" of Taliban fighters and that his bodyguard was also killed in the attack in Char Dara district. ISAF said it had targeted a senior Taliban fighter who had recently been promoted to attack leader for the Gor Tapa district and worked closely with Taliban shadow governors in the area. It said one insurgent had been killed and several detained but it was not yet able to determine whether the Taliban leader had been killed.

KABUL - Two Afghan police and one insurgent were killed during a gun battle in northern Takhar province on Thursday, provincial police chief Shah Jahan Noori said.

KABUL - One civilian was killed and six wounded overnight during an attack by Taliban insurgents in the Zhari district of southern Kandahar province, said Zalmay Ayubi, the Kandahar governor's spokesman.
