BOGOTA (TrustLaw) - Bogota’s top investigating agency has opened an enquiry into alleged irregularities over the awarding of contracts during the Under-20 FIFA Football World Cup hosted by Colombia last year, El Tiempo reports.

Bogota’s Inspector General, which monitors and investigates the spending of public funds by state entities in the capital, has opened an investigation against Ana Edurne Camacho, the person who was in charge of awarding contracts during the sporting event, the newspaper says.

The investigation reportedly involves alleged irregularities involving food contracts, travel expenses and the multimillion-dollar closing ceremony.

The football tournament hosted by Colombia in July and August last year was billed as the way for the Andean nation to shrug off its negative image as a country wracked by violence.
