BANGKOK (TrustLaw) – The wife of an Indonesian legislator and retired police general accused of bribing lawmakers will face her first trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Friday, the Jakarta Post reported, citing the court spokesman.
Businesswoman Nunun Nurbaeti was arrested in December, after having gone missing for months over a case connected with the election of Miranda Goeltom as the senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia in 2004.
At least 26 politicians were tried last year and convicted of receiving travellers' cheques worth between 150 million rupiah ($16,610) and 1.45 billion rupiah ($160,600) in exchange for nominating Goeltom. Nurbaeti is alleged to have distributed the bribes.
Nurbaeti is married to Adang Daradjatun, a lawmaker and former deputy chief of the national police who refused to cooperate with investigators hunting for his fugitive wife.
According to the Jakarta Post, the Corruption Eradication Commission named Goeltom a suspect on Jan. 26.
