One in four women in the UK experience domestic violence

LONDON (TrustLaw) – Funding cuts to women’s services in the UK might put more women at risk in a country where one in four women experience domestic violence, Al Jazeera news network reports.

Women’s groups say they are being disproportionally affected by the cuts, and some charities have warned some of the refuges where women victims of violence seek help might be forced to close.

As part of broader government measures to curb the UK’s budget deficit, some 31 percent of funding for women’s services was cut between 2010 and 2012, according to Al Jazeera.

The news report said two women are killed every week in the UK by current or former partners.
