ADDIS ABABA, March 15 (Reuters) - Ethiopia said on Thursday it had carried out an attack inside Eritrea on Ethiopian rebels it says are based and trained there, several weeks after accusing the Eritrean government of planning a kidnapping of Western tourists.

"Our national defence force has today taken measures against military posts inside Eritrea in which subversive and anti-peace elements were trained," government spokesman Shimelis Kemal told reporters.

Ethiopia and Eritrea fought a 1998-2000 border war that killed some 70,000 people, and the dispute still festers. (Reporting by Aaron Maasho; Editing by David Clarke; Editing by Toby Chopra)
