KHARTOUM, March 27 (Reuters) - Sudan's President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has suspended plans to visit South Sudan on April 3 after fighting broke out between the countries' armies along their poorly-marked border, Sudan's state radio reported on Monday.
The broadcaster said in a brief text message the suspension came after an attack on the oil-producing area of Heglig, parts of which are claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan. A Sudan government spokesman accused South Sudan of carrying out the attack, state news agency SUNA said.
Bashir had been due to hold talks with his southern counterpart Salva Kiir during his visit to the southern capital Juba to resolve tensions that have surged since South Sudan seceded from Sudan last year. (Reporting by Khalid Abdelaziz and Ulf Laessing; Editing by Andrew Heavens)
