LONDON (AlertNet) – The UK’s Department for International Development (DfID) is due to announce this week a fund to finance innovations that will help people affected by natural disasters, the BBC reported.
The BBC said the fund will support projects such as an app to help reunite missing families and the use of satellite technology to produce maps for rescuers. It will also finance solutions like buckets that can be filled with fresh water and sealed, or collapsible wheelchairs.
It is predicted that the number of people affected by natural disasters will rise to 375 million by 2015, the BBC added.
