Thomson Reuters Foundation took a top prize at the Charity Awards in London on 14th June for TrustLaw Connect, our free legal service for NGOs and social enterprises.
The Charity Awards is the highest profile event in the charity calendar in the United Kingdom. Each of the 10 winning charities were judged by an independent panel of sector leaders as having demonstrated outstanding best practice from which other organisations can learn. TrustLaw Connect received the prize in the “Advice, support and advocacy category”.
This is recognition of what TrustLaw has achieved in such a short time as the program is still in its infancy and will soon celebrate it's second anniversary. 'This Award is a tribute to the outstanding work that our law firms and in-house legal teams carry out pro bono throughout the world and to our inspirational NGOs and social enterprises' said Monique Villa, Thomson Reuters Foundation CEO in her acceptance speech,
TrustLaw has built a network of over 760 members which grows by the day –including 230 legal teams- and has facilitated over 380 connections between those legal teams and NGOs and social entrepreneurs. The TrustLaw team has carried out major research programs that have significant impact across different fields: microfinance in Europe, sexual violence in Haiti, corruption and transparency around the world, social sector reform, innovation in social investing and many more.
This follows a number of awards in 2012 for the Foundation. Read more here.
