TRF alumni, Josephat Kioko, has been nominated for the 2012 Diageo Africa Journalist Business Reporting Awards taking place in London on Wednesday June 28th.  He is among six journalists from Kenya invited to the awards.  Josephat is a radio journalist working in Mombasa for Baraka FM.

His story in the Best Finance Feature category is about  a small village called Kongowea near Mombasa town where the community has been introduced to using a  complimentary currency called the "Eco-Pesa" voucher.  This was achieved through an NGO ( Eco Ethics International ).  Almost everyone in Kongowea Village is participating in cleaning the environment and being rewarded with Eco-Pesa Vouchers,  those registered, from youths who have no jobs to many women, will use the voucher to buy commodities from other members.  Everyone is happy with this venture and their homes and surroundings are left clean and it is helping to contribute to poverty reduction.
