LAHORE, Pakistan, July 12 (Reuters) - Masked gunmen stormed a house and killed nine policemen in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore on Thursday, police said, in the second attack on security forces in relatively peaceful Punjab province in four days.

"At around 6 a.m., masked gunmen on three motorcycles stormed the house and opened fire. The victims were trainees at the Punjab Jail Academy," Lahore city police chief Aslam Tareen said, adding three policemen were wounded.

Many of the police were from the insurgency-hit northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province near the border with Afghanistan.

On Monday, gunmen killed six soldiers and a policeman at a riverside military encampment in eastern Pakistan, 100 km (60 miles) north of Lahore. The Pakistan Taliban claimed responsibility.

The group vowed more attacks in the province, raising the prospect of more violence in a region that has been largely spared by militant trouble in recent years. (Reporting by Mubasher Bukhari; Writing by Qasim Nauman; Editing by Jeremy Laurence)
