Tomorrow the world gets to watch the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics, but here in London we’ve been bracing ourselves all week. But as always the team here at TrustMedia is going through all the Tube delays, office changes, and everything London 2012 can throw at us with a smile. And it doesn’t hurt that summer finally decided to arrive in London, bringing some much needed heat and sunshine!
I’ve been hot-desking it around the department this week, which is giving me a whole new perspective on life in TrustMedia. I generally pester whomever I sit next to, asking if they need anything done, and each member of the team does such interesting and unique things it’s helping me learn more about everything that we do here, from how we fund Aswat Masriya, to how we apply for funding for our courses worldwide. But next week I won’t be the only one playing musical chairs, as the Olympics will push different members of the team into working different hours and occasionally in different offices, so there will be a trial and error time early in the week.
Speaking of the Olympics… have you checked out our Sports and Olympic Reporting? You can find it here. It has a lot of information to help you get the most of your reporting and time in the field. It has tips on interviewing, and helps you discuss controversial things like drugs especially on a world stage like the Olympics. You can also check out our Facebook (Thomson Reuters Foundation) page, where we post articles and suggestions for journalists on a regular basis. In addition to our Facebook, follow us on Twitter (@TrustMedia) to find the latest articles on journalists around the world.
In addition to our handbook, we are starting a brand new video project for the website. Our first installment will be another piece of Olympic advice from experienced Reuters Journalists. These will be how-to videos covering various parts of journalism including photojournalism, interviewing and news writing and reporting. We will also be putting together videos on topics like how to cover the elections and posting them on TrustMedia, as well as Aswat Masriya. So be sure to keep checking the website for our first video which will be up by the end of the week!
We also have some new trainer blogs, and a video (made by yours truly) about our most recent course on News Writing and Reporting in Myanmar.
We will be announcing a brand new course in India very soon!
So hang tight while we take in some of the best the Olympics has to offer next week, and we’ll be sure to tell you all about it!
