As many as 170,000 Brazilians are at risk of losing – or have already lost – their homes to make room for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. These forced evictions disregard human rights, leaving homes destroyed and lives disrupted.
In this video, residents of Morro da Providência - known as the first favela of Rio de Janeiro and founded by slaves - tell discuss the lack of information they've received about what's going to be done in the community even though an estimated 1,700 homes have already been marked by the local government for demolition.
