Stocking led Oxfam's response to major disasters such as the Haiti earthquake and the Indian Ocean tsunami
LONDON (AlertNet) - Oxfam GB Chief Executive Barbara Stocking will leave her post in February 2013, the British aid agency has announced.
Stocking has been in charge at Oxfam GB since 2001 and led its response to the Indian Ocean tsunami, major earthquakes in Pakistan and Haiti, and humanitarian crises in Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, and east Africa.
She has also been overseeing Oxfam's contribution to the "Make Trade Fair", "Make Poverty History" and "Control Arms" campaigns.
"It is essential that Oxfam keeps developing and reinventing itself to remain relevant in the world, and able to deliver fully on its purpose of bringing about a world without extreme poverty," Stocking said in a statement. "I am looking forward to watching Oxfam continue its vital role as the voice of the millions of people unjustly living in poverty around the world."
Stocking, 61, has also represented Oxfam internationally, attending meetings with leaders of the G8, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, United Nations and World Economic Forum, and by sitting on a variety of U.N. committees overseeing humanitarian and development work, the charity said.
Oxfam employs 5,000 staff and carries out humanitarian work in more than 55 countries, with an annual income of more than £380 million ($603 million).
