KHAR, PAKISTAN - The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has sacked 16 employees in the Bajaur region of Pakistan for alleged corruption and mismanagement, Dawn newspaper reported. The action was taken after complaints by tribal elders, an official of NRC told Dawn.

BEIRUT - Lebanon’s Farmers Association lashed out at the Agriculture Ministry on Monday and accused it of corruption, The Daily Star reported. “We regret that the Agriculture Ministry had worked against the interests of farmers over the past three years and worked on a political and sectarian agenda, raising question marks over corruption,” The Daily Star quoted head of the association Antoine Howayek as saying in a statement.

BOGOTA - A Bogota court on Monday cleared former Miss Colombia, Valerie Dominguez, of embezzlement and fraud charges linked to a major agricultural corruption scandal, Colombia Reports said. The case involved the Agro Ingreso Seguro (AIS) - a government bureau tasked with providing subsidies to poor, rural farmers. Dominguez had been accused of receiving subsidies of $173,000 despite having no connection to agriculture or struggling farmers.

LONDON - UK companies face a crackdown on the prosecution of bribery after Britain’s anti-graft agency, the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), scrapped guidance designed to reassure them about its approach to the law, The Daily Telegraph reported. The SFO said it would prosecute under the Bribery Act based solely on the law rather than previous guidance issued after the new law was introduced in July 2011.

ATHENS - A Greek businessman accused of being part of a bribery and money laundering network involving international defence deals has been found dead in a hotel room in Jakarta, Indonesia, Greek Reporter news website said. Authorities in Indonesia did not say how Vlassis Kambouroglou had died.
