PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Two explosions and shooting were heard on Monday outside the office of a senior government official in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, a Reuters witness said.

Officials said they feared casualties in the attack on the compound of top political official Muttahirzeb Khan.

Officials suspect two suicide bombers entered the compound, where a meeting of tribal and government officials was being held.

After shooting was heard, two large explosions rattled the compound.

Militants have stepped up attacks across Pakistan just months ahead of a national election. On Saturday, 85 people, most of them Shi'ites, were killed in the southwestern city of Quetta in an attack blamed on Sunni militants.
