The Global Journal recently issued its second annual ranking of the 100 best non-governmental organizations. On this occasion, Terre des hommes appears in the brilliant 82nd place and consolidates its status as the foremost Swiss NGO in defending the rights of children.
One can count nearly ten million non-governmental organizations in the world. Amongst them, only 3,536 are accredited with the United Nations. For the second consecutive year, the ‘Global Journal’, a magazine based in Geneva and New York and specializing in international cooperation, has compared the dynamism of 450 local, national and international organizations. The final ranking was based on three criteria: the impact of the NGO’s work, its capacity for innovation and its sustainability.
The position of Tdh in the world-wide hierarchy attests to the efforts made by the Foundation every single day, and shows to advantage the work of the teams spread over the 34 countries of intervention. In general, Switzerland shows up well, with the third largest contingent (9 organizations) of NGOs in the top 100.
Unique of its kind, the 2013 list refers to and recognizes NGOs from 27 countries working in very varied sectors such as child protection and also in development, peace keeping and environmental protection. The size of the domains of activity and the diversity of the countries in the list tends to show that, in an ever more globalized world, the work of non-governmental organizations is becoming more and more extensive.
