TrustLaw Connect - How To Become a Member

by Thomson Reuters Foundation

Becoming part of the TrustLaw Connect community couldn't be simpler:

Complete our online application form.

TrustLaw Connect works on a membership basis for NGOs and social enterprises, as well as law firms and corporate legal teams, all of whom are carefully vetted before joining our community. We work with all types of organisations in the arts, education, environment, good governance, human rights, humanitarian relief or international development sectors.

Membership for Law Firms:

We work with law firms, corporate legal teams, and occasionally individual lawyers from around the world. They must be qualified in their respective jurisdictions and behave in a manner consistent with local bar requirements to qualify for membership of TrustLaw Connect.

As part of the screening process, TrustLaw Connect uses the Thomson Reuters Accelus Screening Online service. This service is widely used in the industry and allows for an ongoing screening process with all records reviewed daily, ensuring that all of our members maintain TrustLaw Connect's high standards.

Membership for NGOs:

We support non-governmental organisations that undertake exceptional work in the field of social development in all corners of the world.

Membership of TrustLaw Connect is open to NGOs that are in at least their third year of existence as a registered non-profit or charitable organisation, meaning that:

  • Registered in compliance with local requirements
  • Profits are invested in the basic mission of the organisation rather than distributed to owners or directors
  • Private as opposed to being part of, or controlled by, the government
  • Self-governing, in that there is exclusive control over internal procedures

NGOs can be recommended by one of our referring partners or can apply directly by following the instructions in our Eligibility Quiz.

Membership for Social Enterprises:

We believe social enterprises are key to providing innovative solutions that can have a large scale impact on society. As the social enterprise and social investment sectors become increasingly sophisticated around the globe, law firms are becoming more interested in working for these types of organisations, and we are uniquely placed to support this collaboration.

We consider membership for social entrepreneurs who come to us from three sources:

  • Referrals: social entrepreneurs that are fellows or grantees of one of our referring organisations.
  • Awards: recipients of one of many highly regarded awards in the field
  • Invitations: occasionally, the Foundation will approach specific organisations
