Foundation shortlisted for SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence

The Thomson Reuters Foundation has been shortlisted for the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards for Editorial Excellence. Journalist Nita Bhalla’s coverage of women’s rights in India by was recognized in the ‘Excellence in Human Rights Reporting’ category. Established in 1999, the SOPA Awards are considered one of the most prestigious prizes honouring excellence in journalism in the Asia-Pacific region.

Last December, women’s rights abuses in India garnered widespread media attention after the New Delhi gang rape case. The Thomson Reuters Foundation continues to provide in-depth and powerful insight into the abuses faced by women in India. Nita’s articles in particular demonstrated and continue to illustrate the scale and complexity of human rights violations against Indian women by exploring a variety of issues including human trafficking, acid attacks and honour killings.

This year, the entries for the SOPA awards were judged by a team of more than 100 top personalities in the journalism industry. Every year, the awards honour the best journalism in print, new media and digital.
