THE AUSTRALIAN FINANCIAL REVIEW (www.afr.com)

--Hedge funds Apollo Management and Oaktree Capital, the major shareholders of Nine Entertainment Co, are understood to believe that competing with the Ten Network A$500 million offer for Australian cricket rights is not financially sensible. However, the board is still considering the possibility that there may be a commercially viable case for placing a matching offer. Page 1.

THE AUSTRALIAN (www.theaustralian.news.com.au)

--The structure of the Australian budget released a week ago is flawed as it used unsustainably high figures for commodity prices, according to a Treasury report as backed up by a Parliamentary Budget Office report, both released yesterday. The budget projection of a A$6.7 billion surplus in 2016-17 is challenged by a deficit of between A$5 billion and A$22 billion shown in the reports. Page 1.

THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD (www.smh.com.au)

--Gina Rinehart's wealth dropped A$7 billion to A$22.02 billion but she remains the richest Australian, according to the BRW Rich 200 list released yesterday. Frank Lowy's worth increased to A$6.87 billion, taking him to second place on the list. Third was James Packer with A$6 billion. Page 3.

THE AGE (www.theage.com.au)

-- Live odds during sport broadcasts should be banned, said Sportingbet chief executive Michael Sullivan, who accused controversial bookmaker Tom Waterhouse of "acting irresponsibly". Rival and market leader Tabcorp has also called for additional controls to be applied to advertising related to sports betting. Page 5.
