China quake kills 11, seriously injures 81-Xinhua

BEIJING, July 22 (Reuters) - A 6.6 magnitude earthquake in China's western Gansu province killed 11 people and seriously injured another 81, state media said on Monday.

The quake hit Minxian County and Zhangxian County, about 170 km from the province's capital Lanzhou, at 7:45 a.m., the official Xinhua news agency said.

A second 5.6 earthquake struck the same region at 9:12 a.m. Xinhua said.

The United States Geological Survey said the initial quake had a magnitude of 5.9.
