Bomb explodes at children's soccer game in Pakistan

by Reuters

Family members hold funeral services for four teenagers killed when a bomb exploded during a night time soccer match in a poor district of Karachi, Pakistan.

Officials say it happened overnight Tuesday when a group of teens were playing a match of street soccer at a crowded market place.

The teens and spectators were leaving the soccer pitch when the bomb went off.

The attack appeared to be aimed at a local politican who had come to hand out prizes at the match.

The game was held at night during the second to last day of Ramadan when people stay up until the dawn before they begin their fast.

At least 11 people were killed in the blast.

No one has claimed responsibility for the incident although Karachi is home to many militant groups including the Taliban.
