El Salvador: Broadcasters and WFP Launch "A Step Against Hunger" Radio Campaign

WFP and the Salvadoran Association of Broadcasters (ASDER) launched the communications campaign “A Step Against Hunger and Malnutrition in El Salvador”, with the aim of raising awareness about the issue of hunger and malnutrition among Salvadorans and to also collect resources to fund the WFP’s Nourishing El Salvador project.

SAN SALVADOR -WFP and the Salvadoran Association of Broadcasters (ASDER) launched the communications campaign "A Step Against Hunger and Malnutrition in El Salvador", with the aim of raising awareness about the issue of hunger and malnutrition among Salvadorans and to also collect resources to fund the WFP's Nourishing El Salvador project. Nourishing El Salvador targets 20,000 children under 2 years of age and 2,000 pregnant and lactating women living in 36 municipalities with a highest rates of chronic under nutrition of the country, according to the 2011 Hunger Map. Singer Alvaro Torres' theme "A Step Against Hunger" will be the campaign's official soundtrack. The campaign will also include radio spots, interviews and an education on nutrition course that will be broadcasted nationwide by ASDER's 125 affiliate radio stations on its daily programming. The radio messages will also include a call to the general public to donate to the campaign and help WFP's Nourishing El Salvador. Meanwhile WFP staff will give presentations and train ASDER staff and radio broadcasters with the aim of raising awareness and educate them on the issues of hunger and malnutrition.   As a nonprofit association committed to the development of the country, ASDER joins WFP's efforts to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in the country to support the most vulnerable people. The campaign "A Step Against Hunger and Malnutrition in El Salvador" is the result of WFP's and ASDER's commitment to bring much needed assistance to poor families and to inform Salvadorans how they can eradicate hunger and malnutrition.
