AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 26 (Reuters) - Wendy Davis, the Texas state Senator who staged a high profile filibuster to temporarily stall new abortion restrictions, will announce plans to run for governor on Oct. 3, two influential Democrats with direct knowledge of the plans told Reuters on Thursday.
Davis, a Democrat, will face an uphill battle against Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott in the 2014 election. Texas has not elected a Democrat to statewide office since 1994. (Reporting by Karen Brooks; Editing by Greg McCune)
