One good thing to emerge from the earthquake in northern Pakistan and Pakistani-administered Kashmir is that survivors, with the help of the international community, have replaced their wrecked mud houses with disaster-resistant buildings whose tin roofs make rain water harvesting easy – an important advance in a region that is often very short of water.
